A friend gave me this razor as a parts razor, it had seen better days. But I decided to put it back into service.
The top cap was in pretty good shape, just the minor little nicks on the corners as usual. The threads were great! So that cleaned up nicely.
The bottom plate was another story. One corner tooth was gone, and the other corner teeth were badly bent, and some of the small teeth needed attention too. So I annealed the whole bottom plate and straightened all of the teeth that it had, then, where the one tooth was broken off, I filed away part of the baseplate. I soldered a piece of brass on there and filed and sanded and shaped a new tooth.
Now the handle, I only got some of the handle, the ball end was missing. The tube had cracks and an ugly repair of some sort on the top. I had to heat it to take it apart before I could see what was going on there, and it wasn't pretty! Someone had tried to braze it unsuccessfully, and had melted away a couple of chunks from the end of the tube. They also tried to braze a crack in the tube and melted away some more brass, so instead of a hairline crack, it was now a slot. They had covered all this with solder after the failed attempt at brazing. So.... I annealed the tube to prevent future cracks and got rid of most of the old solder. I had to trim away some of the tube to give me a clean square end to work with and fitted and soldered the top piece into the tube. I didn't have a spare ball end, so I took an old knurled knob that I had and soldered that into the bottom of the handle.
After a little clean ans shine, here it is.
Having trouble loading pix again, will add more, sorry!!!
