This was an unusual acquisition involving @TriggerMan, @Graydog, and me. After a boatload of PMs a deal was struck and I got the razor. You can see the way it was, here.... http://ift.tt/29tyngY.
This was definitely not original Gillette plating, it was VERY thick and uneven, and rough and bumpy.... you get the idea! It reminded me of an old door hinge with 47 coats of house paint on it! I considered all the options of what do do, and decided to email [email protected], to see what he would charge just to strip it, with no cleanup or polish. He said he would happily do it for me for FREE! I ended up sending him two razors to strip, all I paid was shipping.
Then came surprise #1, the other razor I sent stripped beautifully, but this one didn't strip, it wasn't nickel, it was SILVER!!! So I was back to square one.
So, I annealed the corners of the baseplate and straightened the teeth, and pulled out some emery cloth and sandpaper, and some small files, and a bunch of other stuff, and went to work. Did I mention that it was VERY thick?!!! I started making little piles of silver dust on my workbench and then came surprise #2....
There was a thick and very uneven layer of copper plate under the silver, so now I was making piles of silver dust along with copper dust, and unavoidably, brass dust, all over my workbench, and me, and everything else nearby.
Surprise #3, a good surprise this time, the handle had no cracks! And it was tight and solid! Yay!
Enough words, here's the pix.
Special thanks to Chris @nocutsnonicksnoweepers, for being the kind and generous Gentleman that he is!
