The flea market has been in summer slow mode of late, but was able this weekend to pick up three new stones from three different venders.
The first is a translucent Arkansas , 7 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 3/4 ( not sure, glued in case) and smooth as glass. Has veins in the stone but nothing can be felt on the surface. Tried to scratch the side with a knife and was difficult to do. Came in a beautiful Hand carved box, in the style of tramp art, with a date carved inside the top of Sept 97. Looking at the oxidation on the wood I'm guessing it's not 1997.
The second I'm not too sure about. I think it is a Washita, 8 x 2 1/4 x 1/2. It feels a little more course than a 1K, feeling equivalent to 700 grit. On the bottom of its box, it is marked with a rubber stamp WTC-8. Can scratch side with a knife easily.
The third I am not sure. It measures 9 x 1 1/2 x 1/2. It is blue gray in color with thousands of sparkling specks on the surface. It lapped easily with 220 W/D. It is fairly hard and very smooth. The surface feels equivalent to a coticule. Used a 325 diamond plate to build a green-gray slurry.
Am I correct on stone number two and any opinions on stone number three?
