I've been toying with the idea of getting some AE shoes for a long time. My better half has agreed to me getting some for father's day, if I can find a pair I like under $200. I know that's possible if I go for seconds and watch the sales.
What I like - if I were to buy one today, with no price limitation, would be Strands in Chili. McAlester would probably be my 2nd choice it a fifth Ave.
Didn't see anything for the memorial day sale at Shoebank, but saw the father's day sale was posted, so I started browsing Shoebank again. Low and behold, I see a pair of universities in Chili. I'm thinking this may be the ticket for me.
And I'm aware of the Damite sole and actually slightly prefer that, so that's not an issue.
The biggest differences between this and the McAlester otherwise are the Ucap, and the different last. I don't think the shape of the last will bother me unless there is a fit issue.
To give you an idea of how I'll use these. I want a shoe I can wear with dark denim, chinos, and slacks in dark grey, grey or khaki. I'm in a casual environment where I'm typically in business casual or lower type outfits. I don't really have an occasion to wear suits (it's been years). I have a cheap pair of bluchers that are falling apart but that are similar to the Chili color and I really like the look of them (color wise)
What do you guys think? I honestly think I may have a long wait to score Strands or McAlesters in any color less than $200 and that this may right for me. If I've lost my head please talk some sense into me ;)
