I got a couple of oil stones to mess around with. My waterstones aren't going anywhere but I want to broaden my horizons. What is the current thinking on honing oil? I searched before I posted but there were so many different suggestions. Lamp oil, baby oil, mineral oil, transmission fluid, kerosine, 3 in 1, gun oil, sewing machine oil, motor oil, and so many more. Some of those posts went back as far as 2008. Just wondering what the current consensus is. Especially as it applies to razors (as opposed to hunting knives, wood chisels, etc). Don't want to introduce a carcinogen into my system through a nick or a cut. That's why I can't see myself using transmission fluid. Just saying.
