Hi all.
My name is Bill and I'm new to DE wet shaving. Actually, this is my second attempt at it. I come from decades of using the gel in a can and cartridge shaving. I don't remember much of my dad shaving, but I do recall him using an electric razor just because he needed to get out of the house early. I tried that early on, but that didn't last long.
Absolutely love the BBS shave - just can't stand any stubble at all. Years of neck irritation led me to try DE wet shaving a couple of years ago. Went a couple of months and gave up the DE razor just due to the time each shave took and the fact I never could get a BBS shave.
The one thing I didn't give up was the scuttle, brush and shave soaps. Never went back to the mass marketed cans of goo.
Still fighting irritation so I'm going to give this another go. This time I'm teaching myself to be content with not-quite-BBS shaves. Kind of hard since I do have a little OCD.
My previous razor was the Edwin Jagger DE89LBL and I coupled that with a Muhle synthetic brush (which I love BTW) and Proraso Green shave soap. After a couple of years of using this soap (and a couple of other creams and soaps) I'm finally beginning to understand and appreciate what good lather looks and feels like. My usual lathers have been very sudsy and bubbly like a bath soap. No wonder I was irritating my neck. Not much real protection there.
My new setup is a Merkur 34C and I've recently replaced the Proraso Green with TOBS cream and I've had 2 shaves with this setup so far and the TOBS looks like it will be a staple. Not sure about the Merkur. I've watched a lot of Nick Shaves videos and this is his favorite so I thought I'd give it first shot. Not enamored with the short handle, but I'll use it for a few weeks to see if I adapt.
I've added an Omega #49 (I believe) and want to give it time to break in and just ordered Stirling Black Cherry soap.
My aftershave consists of Thayers WH and The Art of Shaving Sandalwood balm. Absolutely love sandalwood balm. Added the Stirling sandalwood balm to the soap order. Might just keep that at the office and apply before meetings. Haha.
My blade collection is the Merkur that came with the razor, a 100 pack of Derby (heard these are great for newbs to get used to DE shaving) and a sampler pack from Amazon. Haven't even opened these yet.
OK. That's a bit about me. I don't really have any questions at this point. Just wanted to introduce myself and say Hi.
