Today's entry in the "solution to a non-existent problem" category is my newest razor: the one and only Rockwell-Cadet OC.
I'm so fond of my 3-piece Cadet OC razor that I bought three of them. They are cheap, aggressive, and reasonably smooth. I use them mostly as travel razors and for side-by-side blade testing. The issue with Cadets is that proper blade alignment can be hard to achieve.
Enter the Rockwell. Thanks to the generosity of a friend who is not a B&B member and our very own Parjay, I am now the proud owner of two v.1 Rockwell top caps and one v.2 top cap (in my book, the current one is v.3). Although hardly foolproof, the Rockwell top caps are much better than the stock caps when it comes to blade alignment (which is really just an annoyance, insofar as it does not appreciably affect the shave).
Sounds good, right? Not so fast. The reversible Rockwell baseplates are quite thick, but the Cadet is not, so there is a significant gap between the top of the handle and the bottom of the Cadet baseplate. The solution was a black nylon washer.
Is this the next big thing in DE shaving? No. However, I like the improved blade alignment and the fact that the center post of the Rockwell top caps will never break. I doubt I will ever go back to the stock Cadet top caps.
