Need some life direction/guidance

I suggest getting a job, and not necessarily a "good" one. Keep your hand in. Keep your eye out for advancement opportunities or an entirely new job. There is a job out there for every American who wants to work. Some suck. Some don't pay enough. Some employers are exploitive and abusive. But a job that sucks is better than no job.

You might consider applying for a grant and going to school. I don't mean a long drawn out course of study, necessarily. One example... truck driving school. Many freight companies have their own in-house schools or affiliated schools and guarantee a job on successful completion. The routes and schedules will suck at first since you will have zero seniority, and some schools are actually little more than scams, but do your homework and you could be making a livable wage in a year or two. Not recommending this specifically, just using it as an example. You could go to sea. There are documents you must acquire and training/certification needed for even an entry level job but the money beats the pants off working at the grocery store or fast food. The offshore oilfield unfortunately is deader than a sack of hammers right now but shipping, towing, etc are still active, and low fuel prices may even be stimilating certain segments of the maritime industry right now. Car repair. Another good one. Forget about getting rich or landing a 6 figure job right out the gate. You can waste a lifetime watching for the perfect opportunity especially if you are one of the majority of people who are not clever at creating their own opportunities to wealth. Just GET a job, and keep an eye out for something better. Construction. Cooking. Whatever. Living with your folks is a tremendous advantage in this situation. Hard regularly scheduled work helps to fight off depression. Minimize your expenses. Drinking, smoking, etc are significant drains on a marginal wage earner's resources. Walk, don't drive. Public transportation when practical. Watch for freebies and two-fers. Be smart with your money. And RIGHT NOW, even though it feels like you couldn't possibly have anything left over to invest, start a 401k, because money invested while you are young is exponentially more effective in building a retirement than money invested in middle age when you are successful and can "afford" to invest. Make retirement your PRIORITY right now, even while facing starvation. Live poor now, not when you are 70. Don't worry about what you have left over to invest. Invest FIRST, and worry about what to do with what little is left, after. I know this sounds totally unrealistic but you really need to do this while you are young. Now, not later. You probably don't believe me on this or you might think I just don't understand your situation, but it is what it is.

Oh, make sure your previous employer knows how to contact you, and touch bases with them on your own initiative once every few months, too. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. And they will be thinking the same thing, if they were pleased with your work.
