In searching for information about the vaunted Shell Cordovan strop material, I have come across quite a bit of confusing information, some of which just didn't make any sense to me. I have been fooling with tanning since I was a kid, carrying home road kill from my paper route. I have skinned lots of different animals, but never a horse, and so my experience only went far enough to ask some informed questions that never quite got answered.
Finally, I found the information I sought, and I hope it is useful to those of you who love this material, and also for those who have strops that aren't shell, and need to know why you should maintain your strop and deal with it differently than you would if it was shell.
I hope this link gives some insight to you like it has me: http://ift.tt/1ObCQNT
