Hi, and welcome. I think this depends upon you. You can learn how to shave with a straight using either. There are some minor technique differences that I won't bore you with, and won't be relevant to you since you'll have nothing to compare to. But the one significant difference is whether or not you want to deal with maintaining the edge. If you don't want to deal with sending a straight out to be honed (or learning to hone yourself), then the shavette is likely your best bet. If you are willing to deal with maintaining the edge, then there's no reason not to go with a regular straight.
