I grew up in a home that was somewhat superstitious. This time of year it seemed it was especially so. We always had the Christmas tree and decorations down, then stored away before Jan 1 or it was bad luck. We always and I mean always had pork and sauerkraut on Jan 1.
You didn't walk under a ladder, break a mirror, step on a crack or the big one, walk on a grave. I had an aunt that was very superstitious and I remember seeing her throw salt over her left shoulder. She had so many superstitions that it drove my mom crazy.
I always believed you made your own luck and I never mentioned the superstitious behavior to my wife or kids. My parents passed before my boys were born so none of those things were passed down.
We have pork and sauerkraut on News Years and that is it.
Just curious to see if anyone grew up like I did and if they passed those behaviors down.
