My package with the various syringes of lapping compounds arrived this afternoon. I have not picked up the balsa so something from deep within my brain demanded that I still play with them. I used my usual newsprint and the GoldDollar razor I've been using for the past couple few shaves. I put a thin rivulet of 1 micron suspension on newspaper and stropped as a sharpening stroke only backward. The spine and blade both passing and smearing the paste across the paper. I did about 20 to 30 laps with 1 then .5 then .25 in the same manner. Some accumulation occurred in the hollow of the blade which I wiped onto the paper and it smeared out again.
I cleaned the razor and changed paper between grits.
I failed to test the blade on hairs from my brush prior to the treatment, but it now whacks them off as they stick out the side of the bristles. I suspect if I had .1 micron suspension i might be able to marginally improve on the polish, but it hasn't arrived yet. When it does, it will be in powder form. What media should I use to suspend the diamonds? I have syringes so that's no problem. would petrolatum be appropriate? Auto Grease?
I accidentally posted this in a thread it didn't belong in. How do I trim it from there?
