Hi everyone,
I have been meaning to join the B&B community ever since I started wet shaving three years ago -- and now I'm finally here! I'm an artist and a musician who cut the first hair on his body 3 years ago. Yes, believe it. I come from a religious family who's beliefs prohibit the cutting of hair. Luckily for me, my family was really tolerant when I made the decision to cut my long, knee-length locks off and get my first straight razor shave. Since then, I have been into wet shaving on a friends recommendation. Its been three years and I love it just as much as I did when I started.
I use a Merkur 38C Barber pole with Gilette 7'oclocks. I just got a pack of Persona blades in the mail a few days ago and have yet to try them out.
Alright, now that I've got that over with, I'd like to bring something up that I haven't really seen brought up on this forum so directly yet.

Whats the deal with Truefitt&Hill Luxury Soap?!?!
I was just in London recently where I checked out a place called Andrew's pharmacy (thanks for the recommendation B&B!) to pick up a new shaving soap. I had only used creams in the past. I decided to go with the TrueFitt&Hill Sandlewood soap because I (and my girlfriend) agreed that it smelt amazing.
I got home, tried it out and got results just like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_s453OLCnF0
It was horrible! Bubbly, thin lather with little or no protection. It dried out quickly and sometimes would disappear altogether on my face. I was very disappointed. Especially because I wasted 20 pounds on it.
Until....
I read into the comments of the above linked video and saw that someone wrote that the soap provides an very rich lather if you lather up the same way you would lather up a puck of Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGLi_m9n_s
So I tried lathering up that way and had success! Fantastic results in fact (although, note that I have no soap experience and nothing to really compare it to). The lather was rich, very dense and left a wonderful slickness afterwards.
But now I'm kind of second guessing my experience. Although the lather is thick and rich, its a little too dense sometimes, the cut hairs tend to collect and clog my Merkur and I don't always get a very close shave. I also feel that, based on video reviews of the DR Harris line of soap for example, the TrueFitt&Hill doesn't really produce the same kind of foam other well reviewed soaps produce. Its more of a thick, rich, dense paste for me.
Does anyone have any success with this soap or any experience at all? Maybe even some tips on how you lather up? Also: Do you find that loading your brush on the soap puck for over a minute, then working the lather into your face for another 3 minutes or so, gradually adding drops of water, a bit tedious and not worth it for the results you're getting with this soap?
I would love to hear what people out there have to say! Ciao!
