Hello Brothers,
I am relatively new (3 weeks) to wet shaving. I have been gathering information on forums for awhile, but just scratching the surface. My set-up is as follows:
Razor: Merker HD 34C
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue Platinum
Brush: WSP High density silver tip Monarch
Soap: Van Der Hagen scented luxury
Hot shower followed by soaking the brush in hot tap water for 2 minutes (water was really only warm) Shake out brush of excess water and load up brush for 20 seconds. Move to bowl lathering for several minutes, added a some water by dipping the tip of the brush a couple times while building lather. It was never thick and could only get 2 passes. It didn't feel like there was much cushion. I had to build another bowl of lather to finish. WTG. ATG, then XTG. No nicks, but it felt a little irritated. Rinsed with warm water then cold. My face felt clean of all soap, but not dried out. No aftershave or balm.
Read some more and watched videos on lathering and technique. Found out I was shaving way too fast and too long on my strokes. Also use really hot water and remove a lot of water to start out, then cautiously add a little water at a time. This soap is very picky for me.
With improved technique, It is getting better. Oh, I changed to Personna Reds after 1 week and what a terrific difference! I also received my DR harris Arlington shaving cream. Wow! Great cushion, great scent and such a comfortable shave.
Took 2 weeks and now I can achieve BBS without nicks or weepers.
I feel like its a Spa treatment every morning. Oh, I have sensitive skin and fairly fine beard.
Thanks again for the kind welcome.
Roz
