I've been lurking for a while now. I joined a couple of weeks ago and posted in "The Hall of Fame". I've been using a DE razor since I received a Merkur for Fathers Day. I had been eyeing the Harry's razors for at least a year, but never pulled the trigger. I cringed every time that I had to buy a pack of cartridges. Somehow I stumbled upon DE razors. I now have a 1952 Super Speed in really good condition. A 1962 Slim in pretty good condition, and a New LC in good condition.
I hadn't used the LC and was going to send it out for replating. The other day I figured that I might as well try the LC out and see if it's worth spending the money to replate. Well it's now my new favorite followed by the Slim, the Merkur, and the SS. So far the Personna Reds are my favorite blade, but I haven't tried the feathers or any of the Gillettes. I'm also fond of my Semogue 620. I am currently making a handle for a Whipped Dog Silvertip.
One question that I have is does anyone have any tips for using hard soap samples? I have a Barrister & Mann sample of Seville. Being that it is a hard soap in a really small container it's difficult to use. I've used softer soap samples by placing a small bit in the brush, but the Seville just falls out when you do that. I should add that I face lather.
In closing I will say that the people on this forum seem to be very civilized compared to others that I'm on. Thank-you for all of the knowledge that I've gained from reading the various posts.
