How's your makeshift scuttle setup, or do you just use a scuttle?
I could have gone the scuttle route, but I really dig the apothecary mugs.
So, I wanted to somehow make it work. I was inspired by one other user here, and tried it out.
Here's what I have:
Hot water added to mug; overflow it to the brink, if desired.

Push the soap bowl down into the mug until enough hot water is displaced. The hot water beneath the stainless steel bowl functions just as a scuttle would. The bowl heats up pretty quick, too, since it's metal. Take a shower, replace the water with more hot water and shave away.

When done shaving, rinse the bowl, leave the soap there, and put the cork on top.

The cork lid is anti-bacterial & virtually waterproof - it can be placed upside down and I can place my brush or straight razor on there.

And, I'll be using 2mm thick hemp string to even more tightly secure the cork vertically and horizontally (sort of like how mail was tied with string over brown paper back in the day) to the apothecary mug for travel purposes. When not being used, it'll be tied around the cork lid around its diameter.
I'll be applying bees wax to it to help make it last in a humid and wet environment.
