1) I should have bought one castle forbes shaving cream instead of two TOBS shaving creams. I bought the TOBS sandalwood initially and I liked it enough and I heard such great things about TOBS avocado and grapefruit. I went to Pasteur's yesterday (my 3rd visit in two weeks) and bought both TOBS creams for the price of what it would have cost for one castle forbes cream. (I believe Pasteur's prices for the CF shaving creams are much less than what I'm seeing online). I really like the avocado and it's a different consistency than the sandalwood and grapefruit, but i don't see much difference between the sandalwood and grapefruit except for the scent. I now have three TOBS creams and i would feel absolutely ridiculous if I buy another before finishing at least two of these. Would have liked to see what CF could have done for a shave. I guess I'll be waiting at least a few months before i test it out.
2) Feather blades are not for me and I'm disappointed. I know I'm a newbie, but no matter how slow and careful I go they're not doing it for me. The WTG and XTG passes are fine, but when I go against the grain it's a disaster. Today was my third attempt at it. If I put no pressure the thing skips all over my face and does nothing. If I put a little pressure, i get torn up. I switched to an Astra blade halfway through my against the grain pass and it felt much better and smoother. I would chalk it up to not doing something else right (e.g. proper lather or blade angle) but the astra worked great for me today and the other times I've used it. My logic behind this is that my extremely coarse beard requires me to put some slight pressure in my ATG pass and the Astra's allow for this and the feather's do not. Maybe another razor with the feather's would work for me (i'm currently using the Merkur HD). Next on my list is the mergress and an open comb razor.
3) I will never strive for BBS on the bottom portion of my neck. It just will never happen for me. The grain switches from west to east at this portion of my neck and it just doesn't want to make shaving easy for me.
