As a wee but if background, I used to only DE shave on the weekend as a treat, using an electric during the week. For a while now I have been DE shaving as my normal daily shave - which left the weekend feeling like any other day. So I thought that using a straight razor would be a good way to get back to a bit of 'me time' on the weekends.
Having read until my eyes hurt and practiced holding the razor until the LOTH saw me and laughed, I thought it was time to give it a go.
I honed the razor last night and then stropped while the brush was soaking and my preshave worked on the beard. I didn't count how many laps I did as I was concentrating on the technique. When all was ready, I lathered up and went at it!
I did two passes, N/S. I had planned to only do my cheeks to get comfortable holding the razor, but as I was going I decided to try a bit more on the chin and neck.
I think I was being too cautious as I took no cuts at all in this shave, but did have a fair amount of stubble at the end. But as a first go at getting used to it, I think it went well.

It's quite something to hold a blade to your neck first thing!
I used my Puma Special 88 for this one.
My thoughts and observations:
I thought that my lather was slick, but found it drying out toward the end. I need to make super slick lather for this, especially when I need so much time.
Off-hand wasn't too bad, but could use more practice. In general, finding the angles and still being able to see what I am doing will take some work.
But the bug has bitten me and I look forward to the next weekend that I have time for another go.
