Finally showed up - Naniwa Gouken 1000 Professional.
Got some more info - Gouken is the series but here's another name that means the same thing, or something like that.
In the deluxe series, there are regular deluxe stones, then there's the 4k Hayabusa, 8k Fuji, this 1k and another stone that's 220x; it's called the 'Fierce Warrior'. I may get one of them just to see how 'fierce' it is.
I only ran one straight and one Chef Knife over it so far. It's hard, a little thirsty - but not what I call a soaker, and the feedback is real nice and easy to read. The cutting seemed to be pretty fast, but I really can't say for sure - I'll need more time on the stone for that assessment.
It's pretty thick, has good heft/density - not too expensive.
The grayish schmutz on the ends is from honing. I did have to keep splashing it while I was using it. I don't know if soaking it is ok or not, but I don't think it's necessary. I may try it anyway.
After the 5 minutes I put in - I can say this; so far I think it's a great stone. I loved the feedback.
Can't do much comparing to other stones yet - but that will come in time.
I'm going to give it another lapping tonight, maybe I'll get back to it tomorrow or Sunday. Depends on how things progress - a few other stones showed up also, and they all need attention.
