Measuring bevel angle - how to protect the edge?

Hi Gents,



Would like to measure the bevel angle on a razor that just isn't getting an edge I like - it also has heavy hone wear.



So just a quick question on your measuring technique - I am assuming you use either a vernier calliper or micrometer - but how do you protect the edge of the razor so that you don't ding it while measuring the width?



Just be careful? or is there a cunning trick I am missing.
