First shave any day now and am nervous

I joined this forum a few days ago and have really enjoyed reading, learning new things and realizing that I ain't alone in some of my thoughts.

Like many of you, I had been shaving for years with a variety of weapons. I had gone back and forth between Electric and disposable razors, cut, burns, stubble, red-neck, you name it. Frankly I hated shaving and couldn't wait to get it over with. I had no idea what I was doing, what is pre-shave or post shave lotions? I had no idea and thought my can of Edge was all I needed.

One day last year I was walking the local mall with my wife. (What we guys do to make the wife happy) She wanted to go into some woman's clothing store and I didn't feel like sitting in the "husbands chair" and wait for her to finish. I noticed an Art of Shaving store and went in. They were very nice and informative and taught me a lot about what is needed and the process of shaving. I purchased a kit which included a fine badger brush, cream, pre and post shave oil and balm. I also bought a nice Mach3 handle and cartridges. Home I went and a new world of shaving began. I have enjoyed it immensely since.

Like most of you, I keep adding to the collection. I recently purchased Proraso products and think they're great. It just go to show you, price isn't everything.

I've been lurking in the AOS and online stores looking at DE Razors. I've really wanted to buy one as I'm so into wet shaving now and want to do it right and get rid of my Mach3. Well, I finally did it this week and purchased an Edwin Jagger DE8911 Chrome razor. They suggested I get a variety pack of blades to figure out which brand I like. The shipment is on it's way and I expect delivery early next week.

Well, I'm nervous about using it and cutting myself, which is why I was hesitant in the first place. This brings up lot's of questions, any tips for us virgins? What should I use in the event that I do get cut? Suggestions on avoiding cuts? How often do you change blades?

I appreciate any thoughts or help on this. I'll post pixs of the new razor and let you know how it goes after I get it and use it.

Thanks for all the info

Steve
