I'm a huge fan of repurposing items to fit into my shaving hobby. I recently came down to the end of my stick of old spice deodorant and saw some potential there. I had 2 pucks of VDH that I got for cheap from my exchange store so I decided to make my own shave stick. I cleaned the empty container out with soap and water to get out any residue. Peeled the stickers off and cleaned off the glue which was not very hard to do. I put the little plastic riser back onto the center twist knob and put it all the way back down to the bottom of the tube. I melted the soap one puck at a time in the microwave for 10 second intervals until melted. DON'T USE LONGER INTERVALS! It will boil over! I then poured the melted soap into the tube. I instantly noticed a problem, the little riser had holes in it and allowed the soap to go below it. This caused some leaking so I quickly put the tube into a plastic zip-lock and put it into the freezer to harden faster. Some soap leaked into the bag but once it hardened I was able to take the tube out of the bag and re-heat spilled out soap to pour over the top. I followed up with the second puck and no leaking this time since the bottom was solid. Once the whole thing hardened I twisted it all the way out of the tube and cut off the excess from the bottom and melted and poured over the top. Cut out the label from the box and taped it on. Looks great and really works awesome.
