I thought I'd throw some totally random fountain pen/paper questions and comments into 1 post.
1) I'm trying to find paper pad that are American Junior Legal size (5x8 inches) to fit a specific cover. Supposedly the A5 side/Rhodia ones won't fit. Does anyone have any suggestions? How much does it cost to get a pad trimmed down at a Staples/Office Depot if I do buy A5 pads? I'm thinking of journaling, and the idea of using a top-bound pad is appealing as it lies completely flat and doesn't have wires or other bindings on either side to interfere with writing. If the page moves around I think I can always use a rubber band that anchors the very bottom . . . I hope.
2) If a pen with an aftermarket nib occasionally skips, what nib/feed adjustments fix that? I'm using a Knox EF nib in a Rosetta Napoleon, and De Atramentis Alexander Hamilton as the ink. It starts well most of the time, and writes well most of the time, but occasionally I get a "no flow" scenario for a half second. Annoying.
3) My thanks again to Nemo, as I now have 2-3 very nice fountain pens to enjoy. More specifically, I have 2 Rosetta Napoleons and 1 Nussbaum Nicholas. The factory nibs were mediums - the Rosettas were extremely tight/no flow, while the Nussbaum worked very nicely. Alas, I hate wide nibs. Thanks to Nemo's suggestion, all of them are now running Knox #5 EF nibs, which look beautiful and write beautifully as well. I do still need to tinker a bit with them, perhaps, but they are now in the "I really like this pen" category rather than the "It's a nice pen, but . . . " category. My only caveat - see 2).
4) I never thought that I'd want to only wear shirts with pockets so that I can carry a fountain pen around without the darn thing sliding out of my pocket, or running around with a leather pen case, or especially wanting to buy a second pen case since my first isn't big enough!
5) My daughter decided to try stabbing a pad of paper with a Pelikano. I've never seen a nib looking crumpled in that way. After a talk with her, I'm hoping that she doesn't destroy her other "kid's Pelikan". If she does, I guess I'll try again in a year or three.
Good night all!
