Well after developing ridiculously sensitive skin over the last year and hating the way shaving left my neck sore, red and blotchy, I started looking on the internet for ways to shave sensitive skin. I found am article on a shave cream called blue beards revenge and decided I was going to order some. Through that I found out about DE wet shaving and eventually came across this site and was intrigued by the way a lot of the members seemed to have had similar problems to me using the different cartridge razors but were praising their change to DE shaving. So i decided to take the plunge and ordered a Merkur 33C Classic Double Edge Razor, The Bluebeards Revenge Luxury Shaving Cream and a Progress Vulfix 404 Grosvenor Mixed Badger and Boar Bristle Shaving Brush.
They must've been delivered yesterday as my neighbour handed them in today and I was genuinely excited about my first DE shave. Well it went ok. The shaving cream didn't lather as well as I'd expected but next time I'll add a little more cream to the bowl. I used the Merkur supplied blade and set about my shave. My technique definitely needs a little work and next time I'll slow it down and try and follow a set pattern and try the N-S shave for my first pass and XTG for a second. Not sure about the blade as I definitely felt a burning sensation while using it and after the shave. Not quite a BBS shave but definitely passable and a little rough on the neck area. I did get a few small nicks between my bottom lip and chin but I usually get them due to the sensitive nature of my skin. Rinsed off after and applied some nivea sensitive skin shaving balm and the burnings died off a bit.
I did get some free feather blades with my order so that should be an interesting shave.
Well thats my experience of my first ever wet shave any advice, tips, things to buy would be greatly appreciated. I have watched some shaving vids by mantic54, geofatboy and the AOM website.
