Hello All,
My name is Dominick I am 20 years old from Westchester, NY and I am new to this forum. I became interested in wet shaving about a year ago when I passed an Art of Shaving in Grand Central Terminal and saw all of the products. Since that time I have done much research and have started my collection of "toys" and I wanted to get some opinions on my set up.
I use a DE razor set I bought of amazon for $50 from Boss razors. The razor is great for me and gives a nice, close shave. The set also came with a pure badger brush which is fine, but it looses about 6 hairs every usage. (can anyone recommend a good brand that doesn't cost too much)
For blades I use Astras and on occasion merkurs, I however prefer the astras as they don't cut my face to ribbons.
I also use Proraso Pre and Post (dopo) shaves with an Art of Shaving sandalwood shaving cream (don't kill me, I know everyone says don't buy from them, but I got it for christmas and it smells amazing)
Please let me know what you think.
On a separate topic, I recently bought a straight razor from an antique shop for $12, it has German Steal and is in goodish condition. The only problem is that it needs to be honed. Since I am rather inexperienced, I would like someone else to hone it for me; However I cannot seem to find anyone local who can do it. I am wondering if someone knows anyone in the Westchester area, or someone I can send it to, who won't rip me off, that would really help. Or If someone can recommend where I can get a great shave ready razor for under $30-40, I would love that too.
I am sorry this is such a long message, but I have so much I want to learn so any help is appreciated.
Thank You All in Advance,
Dominick
