having trouble with consistency

Sometimes, not always, my coti results are very unpleasant.

I got the coti from Jarred after much talks, and I'm sure it's a good stone. And sometimes the coti does work.

Film always works. But sometimes, like recently, my straight is unpleasantly "catchy". It's the opposite of smooth.

It's not like it's dull. The treetop arm hair test shows that it does chop arm hair.

But when I shaved, it was like it was trying to bite me. I would describe it as catchy and tuggy. It would suddenly stop as if it was trying to dig in to the skin. Unnerving.

I had to put it down and finish the shave with a shavette. I can shave with a shavette no problem.

The advantage of coti is that they should deliver smooth and comfortable, although at the expense of not being super sharp. And smooth and comfy is what I like.

I hone on the coti under running water, no slurry, forty laps, freehand style, light pressure. Then forty on the leather.

Not sure what's going on.

Any ideas appreciated.
