I've had a chunk of brown mallee burl in the shop for several months that was crosscut and not good for much because all it wants to do is chip. I decided to chop a piece off and glue it to a piece of ebony and turn a handle. The mallee was full of cracks, most of which I filled but others wouldn't hold the sawdust/glue mixture. It's an awful piece of wood really, beautiful to look at but why in the world was it crosscut? Anyhow I'm in the Christmas restraint so a knot will have to wait, but I thought I'd show the handle now. Not my best work but I did what I could considering the poor shape of the burl. Sorry for the low quality pics, it was still on the threaded mandrel attached to my lathe.
