Hi guys!
I'm a total noob to DE shaving, and I bought the cheapest option I could find to try it out. I had gotten fed up with the prices of cartridge razors and their complete lack of effectiveness for my face. I would have to make 5-7 passes before I could get a smooth face, and the blades rarely lasted through three shaves. I heard nothing but good things about DE shaving so when I found one on clearance I threw it in the cart.
I bought a Van Der Hagen safety razor from walmart for $12 on clearance... it came with 5 blades.
The first time I used it, my mind was blown. I felt instant regret for all the years I had torn up my face with cartridge razors. I had no idea how much of an improvement it was going to be, and I bought a cheapo at that!
One thing has been bugging me though, I've been through over 30 shaves now and it feels no different from the first day, each shave being light years ahead of any cartridge razor I had used in the past.
Is this absurd or what? I don't have super thin hair or anything, and I have to shave everyday for work. I don't know how I feel about trying less expensive blades like feather because most people are reporting 3-7 shaves from those blades before they ditch them. The van der hagen blades are $1 each but its been a month now and its showing no signs of slowing down yet.
I can't tell if i'm falsely believing the blades are still good or not. It's possible I think it hasn't changed because the blades are still providing a shave that's better than cartridge razors.. but my face doesn't have any irritation when I'm done, and my face is as smooth as can be. If there is a reason for me to swap out the blade, I can't see it.
noob to DE. Is this normal?
