Hi,
I will continue to read here and learn. I am trying to get away from the Gillette Mach 3. I have tried the Dollar Shave club and Harry's. I just don't think I should spend a fortune to shave? Or maybe better said once essentials are acquired spend a fortune to maintain.
I have a Muhle R89 and a Merkur Futur Satin. Been playing with blades and I have a variety pack. I do get razor burn from time to time. Trying post shave Nivea and Poraso Post Shave Balm.
I used to use the Gillette Shave Cream but I do have the Badger Brush and soap and nice black round wood box to put the soap in. Been using that trying to ween off Gillette.
My face hair, well I could shave twice a day. I had a full beard at 16 years old. I am 52. I have a thick beard or whiskers and and terrible five o'clock shadow.
All that said, is there any thing to open or closed face safety razors? Someone with a heavy beard? Opinions seem to be all over the board. For me, determination! I would rather start and working on just one pass shaves. I really think this is doable and so many variables you can't try this for five days and give up.
In the past I did try the straight razor but I get up at 3AM for work and need to shave and not take all day. I work for the railroad as an accountant.
From what I have read, try different blades, I hope my razors are good? Soaps make a difference so experiment and don't give up. And many seem to succeed. I have watched so many videos on You Tube. You would think at 52 I would have figured out shaving?
Oh yeah, nothing wrong with the Mach3 and baby face shave. Except the price. But to use a Safety Razor well maybe more skill? Old school.
Any tips? Are my razors adequate for a heavy beard (whiskers)? I am caucasian, and German. Not that matters. Blue eyed and well grey. Was blonde but old age got the best of me.
Many thanks as most here I admire you all are truly sages.
Bill
