I like Fougères and have trouble passing them up when I find one that sounds interesting. Wholly Kaw was an impulse buy for me, after reading a few positive reviews. So as you can imagine I was very excited when the soap arrived. I have only become more excited about this soap as I’ve smelled it, lathered and used it. The company describes the scent as a: “clean, crisp and fresh scent. Inviting mix of sweet and spicy. Not cloying and overpowering. Damp, green and earthy. The scent blooms while lathering. The clean scent lingers post shave.” To me this is a spot on description of the scent.
Wholly Kaw is a Vegan soap maker, but the way this soap lathers you would think it was tallow based. It took me 15-20 seconds or so to load my brush (Omega Synthetic) and then very little time to whip up a bowl of lather (another 40 seconds or so).
My Review
Pros: Great smelling, easy to lather, takes water very well and is slick and provides a nice cushion for shaving.
Cons: I have not identified any
Ease of lathering: I bloomed the water while in the shower, added some bloom water to my bowl and had a loaded brush in less than 20 seconds.
Lifespan of lather: The lather lasts and there is enough for a 3 pass shave with no deterioration in soap quality.
Moisturizing: Yes, my skin was left feeling soft and supple, not at all drying.
How protective? It is quite slick and provides great protection while shaving. Look Ma, no nicks!
Scent: It is a unique Fougère scent and one I like very much, it is there, but doesn’t over-power.
Would you buy again? I won’t soon be without it!
