Let's say there is currently a business in an older building. The current business is not the original business. There was another business in the same building in the 1960s.
There was apparently never a certificate of occupancy issued for the original business owner back in the 1960s, because no such certificate or related documentation can be found. The city official say they do not know if a certificate of occupancy was back then even required.
City officials also say that the current business does not require a certificate of occupancy on order to operate, because the current owner of the business is not the original owner.
Does anybody know if in California the current business does require to have a certificate of occupancy in order to operate a business?
