Well I have been on a quest to delve deeply into English made DE razors and find out if the razors live up to the hype.
My latest score is a very good condition Wilkinson Sword DE.
This one is often called the sticky razor due to its painted or plated handle which becomes somewhat more grippy when wet.
This one has spent it's days in the drawer of a nice Brit gentleman who used it rarely since new. He did at some point drop the razor and the end cap on one side was dislodged and lost. Other than that it's in perfect condition. I am in the Lime shave off and committed to using these mystery creams for the next two weeks. So I used mystery cream 1 tonight for the third shave. And this razor is definetly a keeper in my opinion.
I loaded it with a new Feather blade and did my normal shower, Noxzema , face lather on top, and shave two passes.
The first thing I found was that this razor has a very narrow window at which it shaves well. The proper angle is with the whole door half closest to your face placed flat on the cheek and kept at that angle. So a shallow angle is necessary with this razor. I prefer razors that shave shallow so this was good for me.
The next big thing was how smoothly and easily this razor wipes stubble from your face. It is a great shaving razor in my opinion. Quick, smooth, and efficient almost to a fault. What I mean is that the first rinse revealed that I had a very close to BBS shave after one ATG pass. I lathered and did the second pass and rinsed to find a no touchup two pass genuine BBS shave. So I am impressed with this razor and how well it works on my face.
The only thing I can say that is bad about this razor is just how easy it is to shave with. It is almost as mindless as a cart razor which to me is not a good thing. I tend to not use mindless razors very much except when in a hurry or when really tired. So the excellence of this razor may just be its downfall. But it is still too early to tell yet.
I am looking forward to using it for a week or more before deciding where it fits in the collection.
On the other hand if you like super smooth, and super easy razors, then this DE may be just the thing you have been looking for.
