So, I recently bought a Bay strop for the leather and it worked. The strop had a secondary, waffle pattern and coated with white junk which washed completely away. It's in good condition.
It appears to be a smoother surface with dimples laminated to a base of coarser material. Both seem to be pressed fibrous material, but the dimpled side is quite smooth and the 'back' pretty rough. It's also made like many strops, thicker at the hanger end and thinner towards the bottom.
My question is has anyone used this kind of secondary? Is it good for anything? What is it made of? The top layer in the second image is the smooth side. Images attached.
TIA and Cheers, Steve
