Now that I have a nice JNAT finisher I am naturally curious about nagura for it. I bought an unspecified shironagura with it - it's simply marked "白小", "small white". I am not sure what it is but it seems to work well.
That said, as an alternative to just picking up a Mikawa progression, it seems like a tomonagura would be a good choice. From what I have read it seems like most softer JNATs would make for good tomonagura?
One thing I am thinking about is the standard hardware store JNATs sold for cutlery use. They are usually softer kiita in appearance and are quite cheap - about $15-$20 here for about a 10cm square piece. Any reason that would be a bad choice?
Another option for harder stones sounds like a kuronagura. I looked at several like this one at Morihei:
(descriptive text is basically that it is easy to use and won't crack as they have coated the thing with four and a half coats of well-cured cashew lacquer. I have no idea what a half coat of lacquer means.)
There is obviously a lot to learn here. Advice appreciated :)
