Well after months of contemplating getting into the Straight razor game my dad pushed me over the edge this Christmas. I got a new Ralf Aust 5/8 straight, a straight razor designs 3" strop, a nice new skuttle and some soaps. I've been DE shaving for a while now so I have an idea of what no pressure shaving is and I've watched plenty of straight shaving videos to get me started.
My first shave was about 30 minutes of flipping the blade in different directions and avoiding using my off hand...but I got through it. My second shave was a vast improvement on the first, but still not perfect. I know its a process and technique will come with time. I'm enjoying the journey so far. I've cut myself twice thus far. One ear nic and one on my chin but overall I'm very pleased with my progress.
Unfortunately I've nicked up my strop pretty badly so I need to find a way to clean it up. Any tips on fixing strop nics, or any advice at all would be much appreciated!
Thanks for all of the help so far (I've been lurking in this forum for a while now).
Anyway, I'm happy to have joined the club!
You can see the unfortunate nics on my strop...I'm pretty sick about it. You live and learn I suppose. This was my Christmas of Shaving, I'm stocked for the year I think!
