Gentlemen,
My lovely lady got me a starter kit from Larry at Whipped Dog (what appears to be a Geneva 5/8), and I couldn't be more excited for my first straight shave. I've watched a good few videos and done my research, but I know there's no substitute for experience...that's why mostly I'm just gonna go for it. I do have a few questions though, and would like some advice:
1) Is it really important to use both hands? If I want to commit to it, should I just start from the get go using my off hand, or should I try to just get some successful shaves and then progress?
2) I have a typically atypical beard growth pattern...under my ears my beard goes horizontally, and on my neck it's the same. Should I start by shaving WTG (horizontally) like I would for my first DE pass, or would you recommend just going North/South (meaning some parts of the beard would be WTG, other XTG) to get the hang of things?
I guess that was mostly it. Please feel free to chime in with any other advice for getting going.
Cheers,
Travis
