A Slight Burning Sensation

Good morning gents,

I decided to take a flier on a couple samples when Maggard's sent out a notice that their "fall scents" were in. I purchased the Dapper Dragon "Autumn Morning" and their "Pumpkin Spice." To justify the expense of shipping, I added some Strop Shoppe samples (Russian Tea and Baker Street). When I received the package I found that they had included a free sample of the SS Rosemary Mint as well, which I very much appreciated.

Well, at this point I have worked thru the Rosemary Mint, the Autumn Morning and now the Baker Street. Here's my review...all three were very similar in performance (which isn't surprising, all of these are tallow-based soft soaps). They load/lather very easily, the scents are amazing, and I got a very close shave. However, I will say that it seemed each one left me with a very slight burning sensation after I finished my morning routine (which is as follows: shower and wash my face with Noxzema, shave using the Noxzema before each pass, rinse clean, and then apply Thayer's alcohol-free CucumberWitch Hazel toner). The last few days of these samples I even added Pre de Provence AS cream to try and help and it improved a bit but didn't clear up the problem.

This morning I decided to try something different and I actually lathered together some VDH luxury (unscented) with Pre de Provence and got very good shave...not quite as close as with the tallow samples, but as or more comfortable and no burning sensation. I did keep with the PdP AS cream as well.

Anyone have any ideas where the burning sensation is coming from? I do have very sensitive skin and I worried that the oils used to make the scents was causing it, though there was no real redness or rash-like symptoms or anything. VDH luxury has none and PdP is very lightly scented so I'm thinking that may be it and I may be relegated to unscented/lightly scented soaps. Which is ok but less fun.

Thanks for reading such a long post and any help/advice you might have!
Mike T.

-PS - I continually think to myself about Cosmo Kramer mentioning the burning sensation upon urination after meeting a coquettish haberdasher....there is clearly something wrong with me.
