Well, that time has come. My dissatisfaction with where I work is coinciding with a more lucrative offer from another company. I've got a rough idea of what I want to say in my formal resignation; however, I wouldn't mind a few pointers. It's not often I've been the one giving notice.
I feel that as the better man it would be beneath me to mention my reasons for being unhappy with the company in the letter. I'll just keep it short, simple, and superficially positive. Here's what I have so far...
Mr. Boss who I just smile and nod politely to,
This letter serves as formal notice that I intend to resign from my position as a machinist with COMPANY effective two weeks from today. Unless directed otherwise, my last day in your employ will be the next Friday two weeks from now. I value highly the time spent with your company and appreciate the opportunity I was given to advance my career. I wish both you and Company success in your future endeavors.
If you want the gossip, there was games being played with my pay, a bunch of long term petty harassment, a couple of knives in my back, and besmirching my character when I applied to a competitor.
