Hi, all, first post here, and I'm about to pull the trigger on Amazon for my first safety razor. I've been using cartridge (and occasionally electric) razors my whole life (and subsequently, usually wear a beard!!!) I am on the fence between the EJ DE87 in faux Ebony or Ivory... (and I'm getting this Ivory colored parker synthetic brush, I'm terrified of wet badger smell with my asthma!)
So here's the REAL question:
Is there a shaving soap that does *not* have pine/menthol/eucalyptus/mint in it? The couple I found had ingredients like Thyme (related). I'm generally safe with most common flowers like rose or violet, and I have been relatively safe using Brut, and Pinaud Clubman aftershaves, and canned shave cream like Barbasol and other old-school brands (not sure what is in any of these things at all).
I'm finding myself sensitive to animal products like Lanolin (I remember when my wife was pregnant and used it, it killed me!). Also, I happen to have a thing with Avacado - well, I get loopy if I eat it, I'm not sure what would happen if I rub it on my face... so Col Conk Bay Rum is probably out (seemed promising other than that!)
What is the most basic ingredient for shaving soap? Or ingredients, if more than one? I read they are glycerine based, so could one use glycerin to shave? Or does it need a lathering agent like SLS? Oils to keep my face from drying are nice, as long as it's coconut or olive or something like that, and I'm not averse to fragrances, but the simpler the better, for me.
Any suggestions?
