Greetings from the South!

I mean, not the USA's South: I am refering to the one that is close to Anctartica - Christmas feels like Christmas in July, darn hot and humid if your are in the country's North (so we celebrate Christmas on the Seaside or the pool while having a BBQ) or freezing cold if in the South.

Well, as I imagine it must have happened to many, I got three straight razors and two safety razors from my Grandfather and another one from my Father, all of them Gillette. Straight razors were broken, thus are useless (but they are used by my Brother as decoration objects, dully exhibited in his early XX century apartment's bathroom), the safety razors are in good condition. One of them is a golden one, comes in a box and includes a blade case; the other one has a copper handle and a bronze top, I guess they date from the 1930's. My Father's is a typical buttefly model dating from the 1960's / 1970's.

Plus my cousin brought me a new one from India, Lord brand. It is a three piece, light weight safety razor.

So I ended up with an involuntary collection of four safety razors.

Down here wet shaving with vintage safety razors is seen as something archaic, thus even though the offer of brushes is good albeit restricted, boar and badger brushes are prohibitive; I have to go with horse tail ones. As to blades, they are difficult to find and expensive. Shaving soap? Unavailable, unless you want to spend a hefty amount of money at L'Occitane. There is only one brand available for shaving cream sold in pots: Gillette. Brand new safety razors? Nope, none, zero, zilch, nada. All being sold are used ones.

Still these restrictions, I wet shave with a safety razor. I asked a friend to bring me a generous amount of blades from the USA and that's all.

I love wet shaving: it means starting the day with a low pace. Plus using the razor takes some learning, using shaving oil makes for a perfect shaving, getting the right lather is something that takes patience... It makes for an excellent hobby time.

I would like to buy a brand new safety razor, a heavywight, butterfly-type one, a boar or badger brush, blades and shaving soap. So here comes the time for research. These are on my shopping list in the near future.

Many thanks for reading.
