I've only been using a DE for about 3 months now. I must say, I love it! The feel of it, the act of shaving, all of it. It just feels so much better then when I was using my 5 blade Gillette.
I don't shave daily as I am a stay at home dad, so maybe every other day (or three). By biggest issue with multi-blades being that they get tons of guck in them and they are hard to clean out between sweeps. The area is so narrow and dead skin, hair and shaving cream just get stuck!
Then I heard about DE razors on TV...yes, TV. A few months latter, I did some research after seeing the ad again. I checked some youtube videos and watched a review of the razor and a demonstration. I then thought "That's cheep and available at target, may as well try." so I bought the As seen on TV, Micro OneTouch. It worked very well and came with enough blades to get used to it.
At first, I was nerves (seeing as how I had a large razor to my throat) but got used to it and build more confidence. I found some different blades at Sally's beauty supply (looking around as my wife was getting some hair-dye and nail polish). Small, inexpensive packs. I got one of each to try out.
Before I used them, I decided to go all out. I got a lower end Badger brush from Amazon along with some shaving cream. I found a nice little dip bowl at target for lathering and some aftershave from Target.
After bringing all the elements together (and after a long, hot shower), I had the BEST shave of my life!
Anyways, as I am new, I wanted some opinions about that I am using. I still haven't perfected the lathering (still too dry or too wet most times) but I'm not asking for help with technique (yet :-).
Micro OneTouch DE Razor
Escali 100% Pure Badger Shaving Brush
Personna Double Edge Razor Blades
Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl
Nivea Men, Original, Post Shave Balm
A ceramic dip bowl from Target
No pre-shaving product, aside from the shaving cream.
I also have a puck of Shaving Soap (was in a little green box at CVS) that I tried one time. I'm saving it for travel.
And lastly, a giant, empty, vitamin gummy jar with a child proof lid (recycled my son's vitamin jar) for my old razors (The Persona get me 3 shaves each so far).
I'm also looking into a better razor and was thinking about the Merkur 30C Black Double Edge Safety Razor.
Any suggestions, pointers and/or advice is greatly appreciated!
And a big thanks to nick shaves from Youtube (if he even sees this or visits here), you talked me into this wonderful way of shaving (indirectly, by your reviews) and I really appreciate it!
