Fired up the first briar pipe today and it was an awesome experience. The wind kept giving me a hard time, but once it got going I think that the pipe was amazing.
Pros- This pipe smoked really well. The P-lip really added to the experience for me, and seemed to give the tobacco an even fuller flavor..maybe even a hair sweeter (still puffing on trout stream). I haven't gotten much tongue bite in general, but didn't experience any with this one. No gurgling to speak of, and the system's pit didn't have very much gunk in it after a solid hour+ smoke. It also didn't have any ghosting of SWR, even though I could still smell it strongly after salt treatment and another hour or 2 of running cotton swabs through it. Hopefully that first smoke killed the rest of Raleigh's ghost.
Cons- The P-lip was a little awkward to clench. I'll get used to it, but the first time out I just couldn't figure out a comfortable way to keep it in my mouth. It was also the devil to get lit, but I'd imagine that has more to do with my inexperience. After probably 6 relights from my pipe Zippo, it finally caught and stayed for the last 30 minutes or so. So all in all, it was good...at least as good as my cob...though a bit harder to get lit. I'm hooked.
