You may have noticed me reference Alton Brown's podcasts a time or two here in posts but I wanted to get it out there as its own post. If you haven't tuned into this podcast then it is worth your while to check it out. Anyone here on the speakeasy is well qualified to enjoy it as it not only dives into pleasures of the senses in the same way we here like to, but it also focuses on our particular focal libations quite readily.
Alton is a huge bourbon fan in general (as well as a gin fan) but the plethora of guests that he has that are focused on things dear to the speakeasy are what make this a must hear podcast. From Julian van Winkle to the creator of Jack Ruby tonics to the one I am on right now which is Souther Teague who is a chef and mixologist who owns a bar that focuses on bitters. Yep, you heard that right. Their main attraction is the selection of dozen's of bitters and every drink they serve has them in one way or another. Fascinating podcast that explains them in their depth and breadth and goes into how and when to use all the different varieties of them.
I guarantee that if you give one of his podcasts a shot you will be hooked. Alton is known for his vast knowledge of everything culinary (including drinks) but what makes him so popular is his ability to bring that knowledge to the masses in a way we all can understand. Combined that with his passion for the other side of the table (eating and drinking) and it makes for great entertainment along with the education.
Go check it out.
