ok so i know some of what im going to write may not exactly belong here as some of it might seem like a product review, but its the first time ive used a couple things, and im still within my first week of shaving, so i think i'll just lump it all here.
i had mentioned some issues with razor burn and other skin stuff, so i decided to up my game in the pre shave dept., and the post shave. also i just simply wanted to try a couple of things.
my initial set up was a feather blade in a non descript cheap feather razor, and col conk soap. after getting down how to really get a good lather for enough passes without having to re load the brush i decided i wanted to try some proraso cream. so i went to rubinov's in phoenix, which is a great store, and picked some up. i said i wanted to up my game in the pre/post shave area, so i picked up the proraso pre shave and an alum block.
wow...what a difference. after a shower i slathered on just enough of the pre shave. i had heard it described as having altoids on your face. i concur. what a great feeling, and i loved the smell.
now here's my first question. i lathered up the proraso cream the same way i did the conk. i had soaked my brush for the duration of the shower, squeezed it out so it was just mostly damp, and went to lathering on the nickle size amount i put in my palm. as i started shaving i noticed that the cream seemed to be a bit thicker as it left streaks of lather on my face after a pass, is that how its suppose to be, or do i need to use a bit more water, or is that simply preference? or is that even because of the pre shave? it was a noticeable difference to the conk, and all in all, i liked it more.
i ended up doing WTG and XTG passes and didn't do an ATG pass to let yesterdays burn have a little more time to heal. did an alum pass, and finished it off with some pinaud.
the result for me is a much more pleasant shave. face feels more invigorated and softer. a question about the alum, does anyone rinse after applying to prevent any of the white build up people talk about? or does that defeat the purpose?
and my last question, would adding witch hazel after the alum be another improvement all around, or does the after shave pretty much finish up the shave?
