Blades I've tried:
Derby Extra Horizontal pack (good shaves with them, smooth but not very sharp)
Astra SP (Couldn't stand them for months - haven't bothered giving them another go, they were such a bad fit for me)
Feathers (hate them with a passion)
Personna blue lab (good - derbys actually give me a slightly better shave)
Wilkinsons (eh)
Current razor - Muhle R89 with a plum wood handle, matching plum wood Muhle silver badger brush (soft hair brush, mild razor)
My face gets pretty sore THE DAY AFTER SHAVING. I've been shaving with a DE (and a 1912 GEM damaskeene SE razor) for just under a year. It takes me forever to shave...I think my prep is pretty much nailed down, I get a great lather.
My issues are this:
1. It takes me forever to shave.
2. My hair grows outwards from my adams apple, horizontally. Right side goes out to right ear, and vice versa. The hair lies very flat, and shaving with the grain is freaking impossible (stretching the skin helps ever so slightly).
3. I can't get a super close shave, even with three passes (including ATG on my face). I need to find the perfect blade, I guess...
4. Since I can't really shave every day, when I do shave, I have about a 3 days growth. This requires multiple passes to reduce the beard, furthering the cycle of sore skin. SHOULD I JUST GET AN ADJUSTABLE RAZOR (OR AN OPEN COMB) IN AN ATTEMPT TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF PASSES I USE WHEN I SHAVE? Or would this be a horrible idea for somebody with skin as sensitive as mine?
5. Any new blade recommendations?
6. It's so freakin difficult to maintain good razor angle on my neck...dunno what to do about this.
Note - I don't really get much razor burn or anything, but the skin is still sore.
