Hey everyone, new guy here.
I just wanted to properly introduce myself to everyone.
First of all I am brand new to the wet shaving experience. I am 32 and have spent a lifetime shaving with cartridge razors and canned foam/gel. But years of struggling with neck irritation and ingrown hairs drove me to start researching solutions for my never ending plight. Of course the easiest solutions would be to simply not shave, but since I must maintain appearances to remain gainfully employed I had to seek a more viable method.
My naturally inquisitive nature and comfort navigating the interwebs led me to the joys of wet shaving. So I dug deeper to uncover the wonders of this new found interest. Straight shaving appealed greatly to me so I began searching for video tutorials. After running across geofatboy videos I was hooked. My next step was to research the different brands and their quality as I prefer to balance cost and quality.
I was led to this forum through my research and immediately saw it as a wealth of valuable information. I ended up purchasing a DE razor as I felt it was a better way to ease into the wet shaving experience, of course cost was also a major factor at the time. My current set up consists of a Parker 96R safety razor w/ badger brush and stand, van der hagen soap puck and bowl, Gillette 7 'o clock blades, pre shave oil (the brand eludes me), and an alum block.
I've had four shaves so far with my new setup and am very pleased with the results. Each shave is a learning experience. I look forward to all the great advice in here and the camaraderie that comes with sharing the joys of a fading art. Stay smooth my fellow shavers.
