I've been shaving with a DE for about 2 months. I'd been using a straight razor before that for about 3 years.
I shave daily, using a N-S, ear-nose, and S-N passes in that order.
I could get a BBS shave everywhere except my neck within a few days with no weepers or irritation.
I am still having problems with my neck. The whiskers grow sideways, and lay against the skin.
Using the same skin stretching and stroke path I use with my straights, I get a SAS, but not a DFS.
If I use an ATG pass, I get a DFS, but razor rash, and several weepers.
Ive tried a MTO, prewar Tech, 40s SS, Weber PH bulldog, and LC NEW with Dorco platinum ST 300, and Astra SP blades.
I notice that I get the most razor rash with the prewar Tech, then the MTO, then the 40s SS.
This confuses me since they are all mild razors...
I get less razor rash with the Weber, and LC NEW, but weepers with those. More rash with the weber, more weepers with the LC NEW.
For both the mild and medium razors, I'm using the same 3 passes and focusing on using no pressure, and keeping both the top plate and safety bar skimming my skin.
Is it likely that the closer-to-the-skin blade angle of an old type would reduce the razor rash, or likely it would make it worse ?
How about weepers ?
Is it more likely that I just need a sharper blade ? I feel a little resistance on the ATG pass, even with a new Astra. I get less rash and weepers with a Dorco, but a significantly less close shave.
I don't get any rash or weepers with my straights, so I'm hoping I can find a DE and blade combo that works as well...
