Valet Autostrop find

I recently found this British made Valet at an antiques fair hiding in a box under a table, the price was great and condition is stunningly good, three of the original blades had been used but four were still wrapped up;

I decided to try it last night with one of the mint NOS blade......and well the outcome wasn't that great to be honest -no cuts or nicks but also it didn't appear to cut that well!

I stropped the blade a few times before I used it and the strap is in great condition, the blade appeared very sharp and still had grease on it, maybe I need to give it another go?
