2 burn free shaves in 25 years. My discovery.

If it weren't for this forum, my solution to pain free shaves would not have been possible. A huge THANK YOU to all the folks who contribute here and share their knowledge. I've only been lurking and educating myself here for a month or so.

i'm 38 yrs old & have always had a violent and tough beard. Most of the irritation has been on my neck, including bumps and burn, cuts and nicks...and general constant discomfort since puberty. Over the years I've tried numerous product$ and techniques, but to no avail. Purchasing a DE razor a month ago was a step in the right direction, but caused a lot of razor burn initially (can't stand Merkur blades!)

My solution has only been tested twice, yesterday and today, and it's nothing new: hot towel and shaving at the sink, before a shower. The mild pre shave process leaves my face ready for anything I throw at it, regardless of the # of passes, direction and timing. ATG would still produce neck irritation but only if I apply too much pressure. And controlling pressure while at the sink is SO much easier than in the shower. I've been shaving in the shower for over a decade...never again if I can help it.

This mornings routine: heat the wet towel in the microwave then apply until it gets cool (maybe 2 minutes), then I rubbed a little Crown Shaving preshave on and put another hot towel on for a minute. While the brush was soaking in cool water, I rubbed a little Port Products shave balm on and began building lather with MWF. I do 2 passes: WTG and XTG, then a little cleanup. Cold water rinse, toner then a little thayers super hazel. Done and pain free!! It's been an hour since the shave and I still feel no need for aftershave. My first pain free shave only involved pre shave oil then the MWF. Both set-ups produced a perfect shave.

With the each shave I'm finding more uses for the hot towel: cleaning the ikon slant and med preps after each use, wiping down the counter, etc.

Thanks again to all the contributors here, the folks who go out of their way to help complete strangers.
