Thoughts on Whipped Dog synthetic knot?

I'm thinking about re-knotting a handle with a synthetic knot and saw that Whipped Dog has a line of synthetic knots available. The pictures look like the "old style" synths that TGN carries. I've tried the TGN and found the backbone to be too "springy" for my taste.

My question to anyone who has experienced both is, how does the Whipped Dog compare? Having loads of backbone seems popular around here, but I prefer a softer and milder lathering experience.

Machined pen recommendations?

I am looking to pick up a machined pen. Something that takes a common refill. Preferably the Fisher Space Pen refill. I would also like retractable. A Google search turned up a couple but I am curious if any of you have any experience or info on who makes good stuff.

I found these.

This has two versions which take different refills. Not sure which ink refills are better.

Moroccan Myrrh

I love the shave cream, so I've been looking at getting the cologne. Before I spend $45, does it last all day? Anyone have any experience with it?

Moroccan Myrrh

First one, let's call it a success.

Around three months ago, I decided to stop shaving for a while. Call it a month ago since I started lurking on a fairly frequent basis before caving & joining up. I had my Slim to start, but nothing else. So, tonight everything kind of lined up. My supplies from West Coast showed up a couple of days ago: a blade sampler, Omega 11047 with a Simpson travel tube, sticks of Tabac & Palmolive, & mustache comb. I had two News (LC & SC) & a New Improved in the air. The SC showed up today along with a second WC order for some Wacky Tacky. I'd held off for one of the News to show up since I expected clogging with the Slim, given the amount of hair I needed to get rid of. Brasso'd the SC & loaded it up with an Astra.

Lather step, initially a fail. I went with the Tabac. For whatever reason, my initial attempt at face lathering...didn't. Whatever the problem was, lather was eventually achieved. Not enough water perhaps. Took a few strokes to get the angle down, but once I had it, it utterly kicked the ass of any shave I've had previously. I don't keep babies around for comparison, but I'd say I got it pretty smooth. No cuts. Rinsed, splash on some witch hazel, worked on applying some Firehouse. That last bit actually took way longer than I expected. I've been combing since the comb came to get things in some semblence of order ahead of time, but it's a work in progress. Still some strays & general disorder to bring under control, but I think it works ok.

TLDR, New SCs are awesome, totally sold on DEs, ready for fisticuffs

Tongue

A friend mentioned that he'd had tacos de lengua, and it made me want to cook tongue myself.
I used to see it in supermarkets from time to time, but I had a heck of a time finding it.
Even the Western Beef chain here in the NYC metro area doesn't carry it any more -- apparently it doesn't move at retail, despite something of a recent rebound in popularity in restaurants. You can still get tongue sandwiches in New York's old-school Jewish delis.

Anyway, I did find one (frozen) at an Italian butcher shop near me.
I put it in the slow cooker last night, and it is now in its final stage.
There's a not-so-pretty prep stage involved, but I think it'll be worth it.

The way I'll be serving it tonight is in Italian dip sandwiches, with peppers and onions, sautéed spinach, tomato, and sharp provolone, on focaccia.

Who here has cooked tongue? What way do you like to do it?

Just Saying Hello

Long time injector and Single Edge lover here. Finally jumped on the band wagon and signed up for an account today.
Can't wait to learn more from everyone here!

YMMV and all that jazz

I use my DE razor since 2002 and it took me a bit of time to find a blade that works best for my skin (SuperMax Titanium). All this time the carts manufacture are coming with new innovative ways to increase the number of blades on their offering.

We tell new DE shavers that blades are YMMV (which I all heartedly agree) but carts makers manage with just one blade type which is basically a pile of single edge blades on top of each other

How do they manage to cater successfully for all types of skin, hair growth etc with just one type of blade?
